Garden bay windows for kitchen
The usual window when someone thinks of a “bay” window, it extends across the interior of the kitchen and provides great ventilation and brightness. The kitchen bay window will greatly enhance your room’s appeal, value, and design and it is a good option if you are trying to make your cooking space feel more substantial.

Greenhouse window
If you have a room that you would like to liven up with some flowers or herbs, the greenhouse window is a perfect choice. Contrary to the bay windows, these windows have a 90-degree angle, so they are box-shaped, to provide you with the space needed for a small greenhouse in a corner of your home.

Garden bay window for sale
Bay windows are composed of three windows with the one on the front being fixed, while the ones to the side are usually double-hung or casement types.
They are usually placed at a 45 degrees angle to the wall and provide a nice, cozy space for reading or a coffee break. The garden windows are usually similar in design but installed at 90 degrees angle from the wall. Those are mostly used as an in-door, small garden where you can grow small vegetables and herbs for fresh use.
Both options are sure to bring more light into the room than a flat window. You can also choose between fixed or openable bay windows. In case you decide to go for one that can open, it will also provide more airflow than a ‘normal’
Another highly appreciated quality of these windows is that they provide more shelf space. Since what you put on those shelves is visible from outdoors, people usually use them for small plants and herb for that natural and friendly feel.
Also, even though they may look complex, the garden windows are actually rather easy to install.
In case you are looking to sell or rent, those types of windows are sure to increase the price of your house. At least four panes of glass are present in a usual garden window system which makes your home more stylish and friendly.

Garden Bay Windows Buying Guide
What is a bay window?
We’ve been talking about both garden and bay windows, so you may be a bit confused about which is which, so let us clarify. Bay windows are three windows joined together as a large unit. The protrusion from the house is set at 30 or 45 degrees (the most common options).
Generally, they are preferred for their added light and volume capabilities. The bay windows are also very elegant and are usually integrated in traditional-style homes.

What is a bow window?
Just like bay windows, the bow window is designed to create space by extending the interior of a room outdoors. However, the main difference is that the bow windows are curved in an arch. Also, they are generally larger than bay windows since they have more glass area with 4 to 6 windows (these are the preferred designs, but you can also find bow windows with 3 windows).
They are an easy solution to prevent your home from looking too sterile or add a touch of grace and elegance. More light going in also means that your house will appear more spacious.

What is a garden window?
Usually placed above the kitchen sink, the garden windows look similar to the bay windows, with the exceptions that the protrusion to the outside is usually at 90 degrees and they are equipped with one or more shelves where herbs or flowers can be placed.
As with the others, since they are going outside the plane of your house, those windows provide more insulation than regular options. They are also rigid and durable. With their reinforced structure, you can be sure that the frame will never peel, chip, or blister.

Pros and Cons of garden bay windows
Pros
- The possibility of indoor gardening for plants, especially herbs
- Plenty of natural lighting, since they are three-dimensional and extend outside of your house
- Beautiful view to the outside due to multiple windows panes in three directions
- Increased ventilation due to larger glass panes and air circulation from two sides
- Increased energy efficiency due to better insulation provided by the thicker glass panes
- Extension of storage space, particularly important if you have a small kitchen
- Added resale value
Cons
- A more expensive option compared to traditional windows
- Restricted installation position. Since the window protrudes from the surface of the wall, you won’t be able to install it wherever you want. The idea position is to the wall facing your garden.
- While the glass may provide good insulation, you may still lose energy through the window frame, so efficiency is dependent on the material.

What’s the difference between garden windows and bay windows?
Those two are quite similar, but as we said before, garden windows provide a small shelf space for plants with the protrusion at 90 degrees (usually) from the house walls, while bay windows are installed at either 30 or 45 degrees (most commonly) and provide your home with a relaxing corner and a great view.
Both offer great lighting and ventilation capabilities, so generally, the deciding factors are preference and the location of the window.
Garden windows are generally preferred in the kitchen since you would want the herbs you are growing as close as possible, while the bay windows are a great addition to any room of your house. They are sure to brighten up your room and add a touch of elegance wherever you install them.

Are garden windows a good idea?
This depends on your situation. Do you like to hear the rain hitting the glass and the smell of the outdoors? If so, then you may want to consider garden windows since their main selling point is that they bring the outside, inside. They will provide a great view in three directions so you won’t miss out on any of your yard’s natural beauty.
But, as we’ve already mentioned, those types of windows are preferred when your kitchen is facing your yard, so may want to consider other types if this is not the case.
Garden windows are definitely good long-term investments since they are usually durable (this is dependent on the material), provide great functionality and you will end up saving money on bills if you choose a frame with good insulation.

How to install a garden bay window?
We strongly recommend getting help from someone with experience when installing those windows. If you, however, want to try it yourself, here are some guidelines to help you along:
Step 1 – Prep the frame and support cables
Read the instruction manual and install the necessary cable support. Those cables must be attached to an overhanging structure so you can maneuver the window with ease.
Step 2 – Prep the opening
At this point, you should already have your opening cut and framed (if not, ask someone to do it, since we do not recommend it done by amateurs). The jambs of the window will fasten directly to framing members (some windows have flanges).
Step 3 – Mark fastener location
You should find specific instructions regarding these locations in the manual. Mark those locations and drill the holes (around 4) in the unit so you can firmly fasten it in place.
Step 4 – Check your positioning
Using temporary supports and some help from others, raise the window into place and temporarily put it in place. Check the leveling and shim around as needed and then see if the windows open smoothly.
Step 5 – The roof
It is easier to finetune cuts and install pieces while working at the ground, so make sure you do that. Drill holes for the support cables, measure and cut the final sheathing pieces. Set the roof in place and observe where you’ll cut the siding to allow for flashing. Make sure the flashing space is adequate.
How much do garden window cost?
This depends on many things, but starting prices are between $10 to $15 per square foot. A few factors that may influence this cost:
- The quality of the windows. For garden windows, you can generally expect thick glass, but the quality of said glass and frame is entirely dependent on your supplier. Look for labels or certification they may have
- The size of the windows. Larger panes equal higher costs.
- The number of windows. While the three windows model is a common occurrence, you may opt for a different design with more windows. This will, however, increase the price.
- Upgrades, finish, or patterns chosen.

What factors should you consider when buying garden bay windows?
We know it is hard to choose the perfect garden window for you, so let’s try to make things easier. Here’s what you should consider:
- Frame materials – a number of different ones are available such as wood, aluminum, fiberglass or vinyl. Vinyl and aluminum are some of the more popular choices.
- Styles – do you want your window fixed or capable of being opened? Casement, sliders or hung windows? Whatever you prefer, we are sure to have it.
- Glass – consider the number of panes your windows will have. More panes means more insulation, but the overall design may constrict the number, so be sure to inquire about this to your supplier.
- Color – highly dependent on the style of your home. The most common options are white and the specific gray of aluminum.
- The company – arguably the most important factor, make sure the company is serious and has good reviews.
