FAQ's

Pros:

  • Great way to bridge an interior with an exterior
  • Energy-efficient
  • Folding doors, especially aluminum ones, are exceptionally lightweight
  • Easy and inexpensive to maintain
  • Takes up little floor space
  • Very secure

Cons:

  • Installing bifold doors require considerable experience and knowledge
  • Bifold doors are expensive

The total cost of bifold patio doors ranges from $200 to $800, depending on window installation costs in your location and scope of your project. This includes labor and materials.

While bifold doors fold back against themselves, sliding doors have multiple panels (usually two) with one sliding along rollers to cover the other. Both bi-fold and sliding patio doors can save a great deal of energy as they allow more natural light. Also, they are ideal for narrow or tiny spaces because they don’t need clearance to swing open.

The answer is a resounding YES. They come with the same quality locking mechanisms found in traditional doors, making them secure and safe. However, poorly installed bifold patio door will be easy to break into. So it is advisable to hire the services of window installation experts who know what they are doing.

A folding door is ideal for you if you want fewer windows and more doors. Eliminating windows will give your room the warmth of a sitting room and a patio feel. Another idea is to combine sliding and bifold doors. With proper professional guidance, you’ll end up with something completely unique.

One of the biggest disadvantages of bifold patio door is that they are expensive. These doors are generally very complex and feature large units of glass, which are pretty costly.

Bifold patio door can open outwards and inwards, but they slide in one direction only – either to the left or right.

There are three main materials for bifold patio door – aluminum, wood, and uPVC. The material you choose will have a big impact on the price. Aluminum is, without doubt, the best overall choice for folding doors. Durability and energy-efficiency are the most obvious benefits of aluminum. Despite being robust and maintenance-free, aluminum is also very expensive.

If you are searching for a cost-friendly alternative to aluminum that won’t need lots of maintenance, uPVC is your best bet. However, uPVC doors are less resilient than aluminum options and tend to fade over time.

Timber is a natural insulating material and can be painted in any desired color. Timber bifold patio door are considered a luxury and aren’t pocket-friendly. Even so, wooden doors aren’t eco-friendly or recyclable. With that said, an aluminum bi-fold door may be the better choice for your patio.

The size of bifold patio door isn’t set in stone. Nevertheless, most bifold patio door feature a minimum panel size of 400 millimeters wide. The maximum width size of a panel can go up to around 1200 millimeters wide. The standard door height is 2095 mm. It is important to measure your door properly so you can get the right size.

Installing bifold doors is relatively easy as it comes with an installation manual.

1. Prepare the required tools

For the installation, you will need screws, packers, measuring tape, a drill hammer, silicone, and a screwdriver.

2. Creating an opening

Bifold patio doors are designed to fit any space, and aperture needs to be there for the door. Use the door dimensions and bottom & top tracks for the opening.

You don’t need an aperture in case you are replacing a previous door with a bifold door. Measure the gap to ensure it matches the size of the door.

3. Place the jambs and the packers

They should be placed on the hinge jamb and the locking jamb. On the locking jamb, ensure the packers are placed at the top, bottom, above, and also below.

4. Placing the frame

Tracks at the bottom and at the top should align with each other. Place the frame parkers before inserting the frame.

5. Installing the door panels and handle

Start by hanging the lead door, which acts as the main door, and place the second leaf. Close the door as you add another leaf until you have the last piece hanged on.

Use the fixing kit provided with the equipment to install the handles both at the top and bottom. The handles are responsible for the operation of the panels, pulling them into place. The glass should be square when done with the installation.

6. Placing the wedge gasket

The wedge gasket is installed between the glass panes and a door frame to provide sealing. When done, open and close the doors to check if there are any adjustments needed.

7. Making necessary adjustments

The top and bottom trolleys ensure the doors run smoothly along the tracks, and they should be parallel. Check on the jambs if they still need n adjustment or are correctly fitted.

Install the magnetic keep at the top of the lead and second door to secure them in place. Insert hinge plugs at the bottom and top of every open hinge.

1. Configuration

Bifold patio door come with a various number of panels. Know the number of leaves that will fit the available space. Do you need a 6-panel configuration or one that is customized to fit your space? Or one that folds in, out, left, right, or in the middle? Bifold doors can all open in the same direction or lead the door open in the opposite direction.

2. Security and safety

Like regular doors, bifold provides security to your home from possible break-ins. They are made from strong materials that offer protection to your room. They have multiple locking systems and magnets that prevent the doors from slamming when it is windy outside.

3. The design

Bifold doors are available in custom-made designs to fit any space. There are various colors to choose from if you are looking for a specific theme to match the style of your home. Know the design of the handles and locking system you want and how you want the doors to open. Whether you want even doors or you require a lead door. Decide the type of finish you want on the door.

4. Maintenance and performance

Doors are meant to provide a nice view, allow natural light in a room, and keep you warm when it’s cold. A bifold door has a slimline frame to offer a more comprehensive view. The right one should be easy to clean and maintain. The glass panels have a coating to provide thermal efficiency.

5. Budget

A bifold door is a little pricey, but it all depends on the number of configurations you want. The material and number of leaves determine the price you pay for it. One with more panels will have a higher cost compared to a door with fewer panels.

  • Bifold doors are creating a flawless transition between the exterior and interior of your home.

  • Bifold Patio Door are aesthetically pleasing, are secure, and maximize natural light in your room.

  • Easy and inexpensive to maintain .

  • 10 + Years of Manufacturing Experience Factory. High Quality & Affordable Price.

Hardware: bifold doors utilize a special hardware system to operate. As you open or close the door, the door rollers are held and guided by tracks.

Color: Like all other doors, bifold doors are available in a wide range of sizes, finishes, and colors. The most popular colors are black, white, and grey. You can paint your folding doors in two or three color combinations.

Glass: Bifold doors usually feature large surfaces of glass to offer the best views and natural light for your room’s interior.

Grid: Like any door, a bifold door can have a surface broken up by a strip of vinyl, metal, or wood in a grid-like arrangement. Grid bifold doors are naturally beautiful but can make cleaning more difficult.

Frame: when choosing a bifold door frame, you’ll need to consider factors like appearance, location, and budget. The most expensive frames are made of wood. The cheapest option is uPVC.

Locks: Do not be deceived that Bifold doors are less secure than traditional patio doors. They are, in fact, harder to break into than standard French doors. Most bifold doors come with multi-point lock systems, such as keyed locks, childproof locks, drop bolts, etc.

Hinges: there are a wide range of options for hinges available for bifold doors. These include heavy duty and light duty hinges, depending on your budget and hardware needs.
